Iran: Rouhanis says Tehran's 'power' scares US
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the United States would not attack Iran because they were aware of its 'mighty' power, speaking in Tehran on Tuesday.
"Why isn't the US attacking us militarily? It's because of our power. Because it knows how costly it would be," Rouhani told a captive audience at a ceremony marking the National Day of Defence Industry.
"Today is the day when Europe no longer trusts the US as well. Today is the day when China no longer trusts the US as well. Today is the day when many allies, even Canada, no longer trust the US as well," he added, referring to the first wave of US sanctions.
Washington imposed restrictions on Iran's purchase of US currency, it's automotive sector and trade in gold and metals as of August 7. A second set of sanctions, restricting the sale of oil and petrochemical products from Iran, will come into effect on November 4.
In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced the US withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal (JCPOA) and the re-imposition of sanctions, claiming this deal is "defective."
