Spain: Anger rises after Civil Guard arrest Catalan government officials in Barcelona
Scores gathered outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy in Barcelona, Wednesday, to protest large-scale raids by the Civil Guard on Catalan government officials ahead of the independence referendum, leading to 13 arrests of high-ranking officials.
Catalan citizens will vote in an upcoming historic independence referendum on October 1, in a ballot that has been deemed “illegal” by the Spanish government. The Constitutional Court has suspended the Catalan referendum law, following an appeal from the Spanish government. It will be suspended until the court reaches a decision.
