Russia: Arctic will become 'attractive territory to live and work in' – Deputy PM Rogozin
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin outlined a vision to make the Arctic “an attractive place to live and work in,” speaking on the first day of the International Arctic Forum in Arkhangelsk, Wednesday.
Rogozin stated that Russia wants to develop projects in the Arctic region with international partners, arguing that “peoples’ desire to go to the Arctic, and their desire to form ties with it will be the best indicator of the effectiveness of our joint activities.”
US Ambassador to Russia John Tefft also addressed the forum’s audience, calling for all the “maritime countries to come together to form a policy that allows all countries to benefit from [Arctic] resources, while doing their part to ensure sustainability.”
The two-day Arctic Forum brings together international organisations, government bodies, and scientific and business communities from Russia and around the world, to consolidate efforts to ensure the sustainable development of the Arctic and to raise living standards in the region.
