Russia: Barbie look-alikes decry planned ban on Barbie dolls
A group of Barbie doll look-alikes gathered at Moscow's Req Square on Friday, to protest against a proposed ban on the dolls.
The leader of the protest, Karina or "a human Barbie doll" as she identified herself, stated that the aim of the protest was "to support the Barbie doll and say no to the Barbie ban." "Barbie is a symbol of beauty and femininity. It unites the world. This is a Barbie world," she added.
In September, Russian manufacturers and sellers of toys suggested to consider religious, national and physical aspects when holding obligatory psychological and pedagogical expertise of toys. The Barbie doll has been criticised by Russia's Association of Children's Goods Industry Enterprises for creating unrealistic expectations for children which could affect their moral and emotional stability.
