USA: BLM protests speech by LA Police Chief Charlie Beck at UC Irvine
Around 100 Black Lives Matter protesters gathered outside the University of California (UC) Irvine Student Centre, Friday, to protest against a speech by Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck, who has previously defending the use of force by the police after police shootings of Black men in the city.
A group gathered outside the Student Centre at UC Irvine with signs condemning racism and police violence while chanting slogans such as "Fuck the police, no justice, no peace." Meanwhile, a group of around 20 counter-protesters , some wearing 'Make America Great Again' caps and carrying an Israeli flag, shouted abuse at the protesters and mocked their demonstration, while defending the police.
As Beck spoke inside, another group of protesters held signs featuring the names of people killed in the previous year by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
