Italy: Thousands protest extension of anti-Russia sanctions in Verona
Some 10,000 representatives of the agricultural industry took part in a rally in the city of Verona, to protest a mooted extension of the EU sanctions against Russia on Thursday.
Italian Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies Minister Maurizio Martina and Veneto President Luca Zaia and Roberto Moncalvo, President of the Coldiretti federation of Farmers, were also in attendance. The rally was organised to coincide with others to be led by farmers across the country.
The EU sanctions placed on Russia following the Ukraine crisis in 2014 had a profound impact on Italy's position in the Russian market, after Moscow announced a food embargo in response.
