Moldova: Thousands commemorate fallen Soviet soldiers of WWII
Thousands participated in the march held under the motto 'Immortal Regiment' on the streets of Chisinau, Friday, commemorating World War II (WWII) fallen soldiers fighting on the side of the Soviet Union.
The march started with participants laying flowers at the eternal fire of the Eternitate Memorial Complex in remembrance of fallen Soviet soldiers who participated in the liberation campaign of Moldova, before taking to the major Chisinau avenues carrying portraits of the soldiers. The march ended at the city centre in front of the Liberation Memorial, dedicated to the Soviet liberation of Moldova in August 1944.
The march was attended by representatives of civil society, non-governmental organisations, veterans and residents of various regions of the country.
This year's 'Immortal Regiment' march is the second march of its kind, following the march in 2015 when roughly 3500 people are said to have participated in the procession.
