Russia: Moscow calls for response to reports Turkish border guards shot refugees
Spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova discussed Wednesday’s report by ‘The Times’ on the actions of Turkish border guards, during a press conference in Moscow on Thursday.
The newspaper reported that Turkish guards on the Turkish-Syrian border had killed Syrians, including women and children, while they were crossing the border in search for a safe home.
Zakharova said that, according to the media, instead of killing "terrorists," the border guards are killing “unarmed people including women and children.” She went on to say that with regards the Syria conflict, "Of course Turkey is playing a destructive role in this situation, because it pours fuel on the flames with its actions at the Turkish-Syrian border.”
At the weekly briefing Zakharova also commented that “unfortunately, the armed stand-off in Syria is growing, especially to the north and south of Aleppo." Despite this, the ceasefire, she said, is “being maintained” through “the efforts made by the ceasefire working group created as a part of the International Syria Support Group."
