Germany: See 76-year-old global traveller donate car to Mercedes museum
76-year-old Gunther Holtorf arrived in Stuttgart on Saturday after a 26-year journey travelling the world in his 1988 Mercedes.
The now famous adventurer donated the car, which he nicknamed 'Otto,' to Stuttgart's Mercedes Benz Museum after travelling to 177 countries covering more than 844,000 km (549,000 miles). He was greeted by Head of Mercedes-Benz Dieter Zetsche.
Holtorf, originally from Gottingen, decided to hit the road with his fourth Christine after quitting his job at Lufthansa in 1989. He originally planned to travel throughout the continent of Africa on an 18-month tour, but soon found himself in the Americas. Christine died in 2010 after being diagnosed with cancer in 2003, but Holtorf decided to continue his journey at her request.
